Let's master the mental game!

Sports psychology is the study of how psychological factors influence athletic performance and how participation in sports and exercise can affect psychological well-being. Athletes at all levels face a variety of mental and emotional challenges, from dealing with performance pressure to overcoming injury setbacks. This is where sports psychology comes into play, helping athletes optimize their mental game as much as their physical one.

Psychological Skills Training (PST) is a key component of sports psychology, offering athletes structured mental techniques to enhance focus, motivation, confidence, and resilience. By training the mind as rigorously as the body, athletes can improve not only their performance but also their ability to manage stress and anxiety, set effective goals, and maintain a positive mindset.

The importance of sports psychology and PST cannot be overstated. Physical ability alone isn't enough for peak performance. Mental strength, discipline, and the ability to manage emotions often make the difference between success and failure. By integrating psychological skills like imagery, self-talk, goal-setting, and concentration techniques, athletes can unlock their full potential, perform consistently under pressure, and achieve long-term success.

Whether for individuals or teams, psychological skills training provides athletes with the mental tools to stay focused, overcome challenges, and thrive in competitive environments.
My Story
I’ve been immersed in sports for as long as I can remember. In my household, football was practically a religion. My mother often jokes that I was imagining kicking a football even before I was born—much to her discomfort! Growing up, football was my passion, but I’ve always been a fan of all sports, playing basketball and hockey as well.
In 2022, I enrolled in Sports Management and Coaching at TU Dublin. During my first semester, I was introduced to sports psychology, and it quickly grabbed my attention. I found myself thinking about how much I could have benefited from the skills I was learning, especially during my time playing League of Ireland football and with the FAI’s Emerging Talent program.
Throughout my journey as an athlete, I was riddled with injuries, and looking back, I didn’t have the mental resilience needed to keep bouncing back. Then, after the passing of a close family member, my motivation and passion for football took a huge hit. I now strongly believe that with sports psychology and psychological skills training, I would have continued my football journey with a stronger mental foundation.

Leaving UCD AFC was a pivotal moment. I realized that the lessons I had learned, both from life and from my education, could be used to guide and inspire the next generation of athletes. I’ve always had a knack for getting the best out of young athletes, which motivated me to dive deeper into coaching. That’s what led me to the perfect blend of coaching and business—pursuing my degree at TU Dublin.

This passion for working with young athletes only grew stronger during the summer of 2024, where I worked as a camp counselor in Pennsylvania. I spent two months with kids aged 12-17, and during that time, I discovered a real talent for influencing young people to reach for their best selves. Winning Counselor of the Month was a defining moment for me—it solidified my passion for helping the next generation.

As a coach and sports psychologist, my philosophy is simple: everyone is unique. Every athlete has their own path, and as coaches, we’re here to support and guide them. My goal is to help young athletes develop their own journeys and reach their full potential.
At Athleta Proximus, we provide athletes with the tools they need—psychological skills training and nutritional education—two areas that are often under-emphasized in Ireland. We believe that the combination of mental and physical preparation is key to helping athletes perform at their highest level, not just on the pitch, but in life.

Our mission is to make a significant difference in the Irish sports sector. Over the next three years, I’m confident we’ll help athletes compete at the highest levels, and I believe one of our athletes will make it to the next Olympics.
To all the athletes, coaches, and teams out there: talent will only get you so far. The psychological and nutritional sides of sports cannot be underestimated. Let us help you reach your full potential—you deserve it.
